5 Reasons I Love Being A Black Woman

"Black women were created of brown sugar and raw honey. Be wary of anyone who tells you otherwise." - Alex Elle

“Whatever you give a woman, she will make greater. If you give her sperm, she'll give you a baby.. If you give her a house, she'll give you a home. If you give her groceries, she'll give you a meal. If you give her a smile, she'll give you her heart. She multiplies and enlarges what is given to her. So, if you give her any crap, be ready to receive a ton of sh*t!”Erick S. Gray

All women are amazing. Now, Black women are the most innovative creatures on the planet.

I LOVE being a Black woman! I really love how dynamic we are. I mean, no other group of women can code switch, level up, bounce back, transform, regroup, and execute like Black women. We have so many things working against us, and we STILL rise, grind, and shine. As difficult and heartbreaking as it can be, I still truly love being a Black woman.

5 Reasons I Love Being A Black Woman

1. Hair

Our hair literally speaks volumes. We can go from no longer than a grain of rice to 84 inches in a matter of hours. I can wear my hair so many different ways; I joke with my husband telling him that he never has to cheat. I'll just switch my hair, and he'll have a new wife by dinner time! LOL! But on a serious note, I can do natural, relaxed, straight and long, short and kinky, short and straight, shoulder length and curly, long braids, cornrows, and the head wraps (My personal saviors when my hair has clearly lost all of its act right.😂) The options are endless and they all look good! Oh, but when another black woman compliments my hair, I appreciate it even more, because they actually understand how much work goes into it!

2. Skin

I love our skin tone. Yesssssss, the melanin! I love the warmth of my skin, the way it glistens and the richness of it. People trying to figure out how old I really am, because it's true, black don't crack.

I love how good it looks in every color. I love how it radiates in the sun. How shiny it looks whenever I’m sweating, just glistening! I love how it conceals most of my blemishes and just walking around looking all golden!

3. Laugh

Our laughs are contagious. We can walk in any room and instantly brighten it up with our smile and giggle. I just love how we let out loud, shrieking cries of laughter or exclamation when we are amused, shocked or excited!

4. Lingo

I just love the way we say "Girl" in countless ways and tones of voice. I love that I can flip my language from Standard English to straight Atlanta (Yes, that's a language 😂) and even my Southern slang as easily as butter slides off a hot knife! Our lingo is truly unmatched and all this despite having our languages taken from us.

I love that we created most of the catchiest phrases! Non can compete with the numerous words and phrases our varying cultures ‘drop’ like rain into the sea of popular and musical culture. We’re constantly inventing… period!

5. Love

Nothing compares to the love of a Black woman. The hugs are sweeter and the bond is deeper. I love how being a Black woman bonds me in a unique way with most other Black women. Something as simple as a certain look or that word "Girl..." said with a certain inflection, says so much from one Black woman to another.

A black woman's love is enduring, thick, and persistent. It never dies. We never die. And this, is why I love being a black woman.

Cheers to being a Black woman,
